Overview
Food wastage is common in the design college canteen. What is causing this? And how can we design a solution to solve it? We use Indian and western psychology to determine the cause and ideate on a solution.

Why is food going to waste?
To find the reason regarding food wastage, we conducted primary research (via observation and interviews) as well as secondary research. Lack of awareness, taste, difference in food habits and taking more than what was required were found to be the main reasons.

How Can We Solve this?
A proper guidance system using augmented reality and data collection can aid consumers to take the appropriate amount of food when in the canteen. The consumers will have a customization option as per their mood and appetite. Augmented reality of their serving portions are shown on the plate depending on that days menu, mood and appetite levels. The consumers are guided with customized portion sizes, allowing priming to take place. It also allows the superego to have some control over the Id, allowing self-regulation. The portion sizing will start off with an average, and will evolve over time as more data gets collected from the consumer.

The Updated Flow
Now when students enter the canteen, they would understand the menu. They would also get portions set out for them according to their data.
