Overview
What's the project?
We explored the archival system at the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in Pune, examined its shortcomings, and brainstormed ways to improve it.
What's the problem?
Low visitor numbers of the museum are affecting the it's ability to preserve cultural heritage effectively.
People visit museums only once and want more engaging experiences. Schools and students seek learning and involvement. Both of these the museum lacks.
Why is there low footfall?
Enhanced the museum experience by changing the feedback loop. We looked at improving the experience throughout the user journey through an application, better space and interactions inside and making use of collaborations.

The Archival Process
Interested in the process of archival in the Kelkar museum, we interviewed the conservationist and conducted a field study. We also looked into their website and social media handles and news.

What We Found
What We Found
We viewed the system of archival from all angles and mapped out the feedback loops. The Iceberg model and the System Hierarchy showed us how the issues in the museum itself were affecting the quality of the archival process.

People and Museums
People and Museums
The museum has a variety of visitors. We captured them as personas and wanted to know their thoughts. Through SWOT analysis, journey mapping, interviews and feedback sessions, we gathered these insights.

What can we do?
What can we do?
After our research we asked ourselves some strategic questions to guide us in free flowing ideations. Then with the help of S.C.A.M.P.E.R, we refined our concepts.

Solution #1 : The Application
Solution #1 : The Application

After competitor analysis, creating the information architecture and defining the visual language of the museum, we started creating wireframes and building a mockup of the Kelkar app.

Solution#2: The Experience
Solution #2 : The Experience

We defined the visual language, incorporated theme based monthly events and added recharge and interaction stops along the way. We have prototyped one of our VR experiences here.

Solution#3: Collaboration
Solution#3: Collaboration

Raja Dinkar Kelkar museum lacked proper design systems. We saw this as an opportunity for collaboration with design colleges. Schools and museums have a unique bond which can be further elevated through events and special tours. This also would change how museums would be perceived with future generations.
